Welcome to my blog! I’m Jess, a 25-year-old professionally trained chef, food blogger and baking enthusiast based in Essex in the East of England.
I started whatjessicabakednext.com as a hobby (I currently juggle my blog alongside working full-time in the catering industry) and somewhere to document and share my favourite recipes. With the help of my blog, I’ve gone on to have my work featured in BBC Good Food magazine and website and have had the honour of working with various companies including Fortnum & Mason, Joseph Joseph, Laura Ashley (I won the Laura Ashley Bake Off competition in 2015 with this cupcake recipe), Whittard of Chelsea, local company Boxted Berries and Cake Angels to name a few. I’ve also had the privilege of being invited to The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice – this was a surreal (and pretty scary!) experience and mine and my sister’s first time being filmed for a TV show!
As well as being a foodie, I also have a passion for travel and photography, often combining the two. I regularly write travel blog posts about places I’ve visited, most recently I’ve been lucky to visit amazing destinations like Cyprus, Puglia and Ibiza. I’ve also written about visiting New York City as well as Bologna (and Venice), Bruges and Tuscany. I’ve got many more places on my bucket list and it’s my dream to visit Japan one day! I enjoy travelling around the UK too and love a walking holiday up in the beautiful Lake District.
My favourite cuisines include Greek, Lebanese (I’m obsessed with falafel and hummus), Italian, Japanese (I’m a big sushi lover!), Spanish and British classics I’ve grown up enjoying. I would find it hard to pick just one, but my last meal on earth would be either a pasta dish, a pizza or a mix of vegetarian tapas, followed by a slice of cheesecake or tiramisu.
As of 2021, I now follow a plant-based lifestyle and I’m very excited to share vegan recipes with you. Vegan Banana Bread, Vegan Brownies and Vegan Cookies are just a few vegan bakes I’ve made for the blog with many more to come, so stay tuned! A few of my plant-based recipes have been featured on PBN Food by Plant Based News.
I photograph all the bakes featured on this blog myself. All the recipes have been tested out to make sure they are fail-proof with everything from easy and delicious pasta dishes, to cakes and bakes perfect for every occasion.
