About

Welcome to my blog! I’m Jess, a professionally trained chef, food blogger and baking enthusiast based in Essex in the East of England.

Since hitting publish on What Jessica Baked Next, the blog has received millions of views, with readers from all over the world baking my recipes.

I’ve had my work featured in BBC Good Food magazine and website (recipe here), been mentioned in Cosmoplitan UK magazine, Metro, BuzzFeed and worked with companies including Aldi, Fortnum & Mason, Laura Ashley and Joseph Joseph.

As well as being a foodie, I also have a passion for travel and photography, often combining the two. I regularly write travel blog posts about places I’ve visited. I’ve been lucky to visit amazing destinations like Cyprus, Puglia, Ibiza and most recently, Nerja. I’ve also written about visiting New York City as well as Bologna (and Venice), Bruges and Tuscany. I’ve got many more places on my bucket list I’d love to visit one day! I enjoy travelling around the UK too and love a walking holiday up in the beautiful Lake District.

My favourite cuisines include Greek, Lebanese (I’m obsessed with falafel and hummus), Italian, Japanese (I’m a big sushi lover!), Spanish and British classics I’ve grown up enjoying. I would find it hard to pick just one, but my last meal on earth would be either a pasta dish, a pizza or a mix of vegetarian tapas, followed by a slice of cheesecake, tiramisu, a warm Nutella crêpe, or some profiteroles – can you tell I have a sweet tooth?

I’m a vegetarian, but previously followed a completely plant-based lifestyle for a couple of years. During that time, I shared many great vegan recipes with you. Vegan Banana Bread, Vegan Brownies and Vegan Cookies are just a few vegan bakes I’ve made for the blog and I’m happy to share more in the future. A few of my plant-based recipes have been featured on PBN Food by Plant Based News.

I photograph all the bakes featured on this blog myself. All the recipes have been tested out to make sure they are fail-proof with everything from easy and delicious pasta dishes, to cakes and bakes perfect for every occasion.

Enjoy reading my blog, take a look at all the recipes and see what you’d like to bake next!

  1. I’m a fan already. Great blog. Not sure if you already started your culinary degree, but hope it fun and rewarding. You show some amazing baking skills! I have yet to browse through your savory recipes which I’m sure are also amazing!

  2. Hi Jess, thanks for visiting my blog. How great that you are following your passion and are training to become a professional chef. I’m impressed by what you are already cooking and baking at your age!

  3. Stumbled upon your blog in the reader. From what I see thus far, beautiful recipes and amazing photographs – you can never take too many photos. 🙂

  4. Sweet Jessica, thanks for stopping by my blog I have a crazy sweet tooth as well, and do quite a lot of baking because somehow I have convinced myself it is healthier if I do it at home…though it is really because I get to taste everything as I am in the process of preparing!
I love your blog and your passion, reminds of myself as a teenager spending an unhealthy number of weekends with my KitchenAid experimenting with recipes, I wish you the best of luck and look forward to following your sweet adventures. 🙂

  5. Hi Jessica, found you through Angie’s Fiesta Fridays. Lovely blog and very out-of-the-box ideas! I have a passion for baking and would love to learn more. Looking forward to your posts…

  6. You have a really lovely blog Jess. I am continuously amazed by teenagers who manage blogs, I don’t think I even knew what one was when I was in high school! Thanks for visiting my site so that I could find you. I’ll look forward to more of your cooking adventures. 🙂

  7. Hi Jessica
I just wanted you to know, that I just nominated you for the Liebster Award because you are one of my favourite bloggers!
I really hope you’ll participate, but if you haven’t got the time or something like that it’s totally ok if you don’t. 🙂
    Love, Josefine

  8. Hi, Jess! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’ve been browsing yours and love every bit of it! Scrumptious recipes, beautiful pictures and a lovely way of expressing your passion!

  9. Hello Jessica! I’ve been reading your wonderful blog for a while now via Instagram and LOVE your recipes, they all look utterly beautiful and delicious. I’ve just read your about me and that you are training to become a professional chef, which sounds like an absolute dream. Would you mind sharing what course it is that you’re doing? I’m just in my final year of university doing a natural sciences degree, but once that’s over my real dream is to pursue cooking and train properly. But I have no idea how to go about it, all the culinary schools I’ve found dotted around the UK are SO expensive for just 4-6 week courses. And why would a kitchen hire someone with zilch experience?! I’m a bit flummoxed, if you could share any advice I would be SO grateful! Rosie x

    1. Hi Rosie! Thanks for the lovely comment!

Glad you enjoy my recipes. That makes me really happy!

I’m currently on a professional chef’s diploma at my local college in Essex, the course is vocational and I train in both the cooking side of the industry and as a waitress. Really great fun! The course is free for anyone up to 19. Send me your email if you’d like anymore specific details.

      1. Thank you so much Jess for writing back to me so quickly, it’s so nice of you to take the time! Your course sounds absolutely amazing, exactly what I’d love to do. I’m 21 at the moment so will be 23 by the time I graduate (oh my god, how old does that sound) so hopefully I can find a college similar to yours who takes graduates?! I can hope!

P.S. I’m going to bake your churros recipe tonight to bring into work tomorrow, but roll them in cinnamon sugar instead of the chocolate sauce as I wouldn’t be able to haul that into work with me and keep it warm. Can’t wait and hope mine turn out as perfect as yours! I always thought you needed a deep fat fryer to make homemade churros – so glad I was wrong!

        Rosie x
